At BCC Optometry we strive to help you take advantage of all your potential vision benefits. We will always ensure that you are provided with the proper documentation to ensure that your insurance claims are processed in a timely manner and that you will be reimbursed.
OHIP no longer provides coverage for patients between the ages of 20 to 64 who are looking to receive a routine eye exam. Due to this change, patients must pay for the examination when they come in for the service to be performed for them.
If you have any questions at all regarding insurance coverage or OHIP claims, please contact our office and we would be more than happy to assist you.
ONTARIO HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN
The following age groups are covered under OHIP and cover routine comprehensive eye exams on an annual basis:
Children (0 – 19 Years Old)
Every 12 months children are covered for a comprehensive eye exam as well as periodically they are eligible for assessments related to conditions like ocular infections or binocular vision assessments.
Seniors (65 Years And Older)
Like children, seniors are covered for annual eye exams every 12 months as well as periodically they are eligible for assessments related to conditions like macular degenerations, cataracts or ocular infections.
Adults (20 – 64 Years Old)
The Ontario provincial government in the last few years removed OHIP coverage for patients between the age of 20 and 64 years old. There are times that OHIP can cover patients in this age bracket which would include a patient having conditions existing such as glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, retinal disease, visual fields defects, strabismus, amblyopia or corneal disease. In these cases, individuals are allowed to use OHIP coverage for annual eyes exams to monitor the health of their eyes.
